Titanium dioxide photocatalytic oxidation

The Airpura P600+ Air Purifier neutralizes harmful air contaminants via a process called photocatalytic oxidation.

Photocatalytic oxidation is a sterilization process used in space technology laboratories to clean both air and water. It works by combining UV light with a reflective metal surface. In the case of the Airpura P600+, the air from the room is pulled over the Airpura TitanClean Reflector, where it is exposed to UV light from the germicidal lamp.

When the metal surface is irradiated with UV light, it produces hydroxyl radicals and superoxide ions. These hydroxyl radicals and superoxide ions break down the molecular bonds of chemicals that they come into contact with. This process slices the chemicals into smaller compounds, which are then further broken down as the process repeats itself. Eventually, only carbon dioxide and water vapor are left.

The Airpura P600+ optimizes this process with a high quality reflector of sufficient size. The reflector is coated with a metal oxide and positioned at precisely the right distance from the UV lamp. As the Airpura P600+ pulls airborne chemicals over the surface of the reflector, the air is efficiently purified.
