HOT ! Vintage 1970s Givenchy Dress Nouvelle Boutique Red Knit Size M AS IS

This vintage 1970s Givenchy dress is from the Nouvelle Boutique line and made in an orangey red knit. The design features a high mock-neck collar, long sleeves with buttoned cuffs, a softly fitted bodice, and a gently flared skirt. Discreet pockets are built into each side seam.

The silhouette, label style, and fabric are characteristic of Givenchy’s ready-to-wear during the late 1970s, when Nouvelle Boutique pieces were designed to offer refined Parisian tailoring in wearable, everyday forms. The knit has light stretch, allowing for a comfortable but polished fit.  Sold “as is”, please read condition further below

Estimated date:Late 1970s

Material:Knit fabric - exact fibre not stated on label, but I think a polyester blend, maybe with cotton or wool

Lining:Fully lined in orange viscose.

Origin:France.

Sizing:The size tag reads 40 and although this should be equivalent to a US size 6/8, please refer to the measurements below for fit:

Shoulders: 16\" across shoulder seams

Sleeves: 25\" from shoulder seam

Sleeve inseam: 18 1/2\"

Bust: 35\" around, taken under the arms; fabric has some stretch and could accommodate at least 36\"

Waist: 27\" around

Hips: 37\"–38\"

Overall length: 37\", measured flat from the neckline to the hemline

Condition: There is localized fraying to the knit at the upper left back shoulder, as shown in the last close-up photo. Also, there is a quite smal brownish stain on the back of the left sleeve that I haven’t tried to remove - fairly minor in any case.  Otherwise clean with no other noted issues.

Despite the fraying to the back shoulder, this is a very nice vintage 1970s Givenchy dress.  Sold “as is” at a reduced price, there is enough value left to perhaps have the frayed area repaired by invisible weaving…..
