Uncover a rare treasure from the golden age of Hawaiian shirts with this elusive Sea God original, likely dating to the 1950s. Cut from textured cotton barkcloth with a nubby, almost waffle-weave hand, this short-sleeve gem features an understated bamboo and tropical leaf motif in earthy brown and muted cream. Each leaf is outlined with fine black sketch-style strokes, evoking midcentury textile artistry at its most refined.
What truly sets this piece apart is its triple-pocket design - a highly uncommon and practical feature - making it a standout even among serious vintage collectors. The print is thoughtfully laid out in an off-center arrangement, adding movement and rhythm to the already dynamic pattern. Note the camp collar with removable collar stays, a structural nod to more formal menswear while keeping the island ease intact.
The shirt closes with luminous marbled plastic buttons (one is partially broken), a small blemish on an otherwise rare and compelling piece. The fabric has that dry, breathable barkcloth texture, ideal for display or wear. The Sea God label - with its Roman triton-style helmet - adds an additional layer of collectibility. Very few pieces from this obscure label surface in the vintage market.
Don’t miss your chance to own this museum-worthy piece of midcentury aloha history.
