An angled ridge forms the the top of this hinged silver cuff by renowned Finnish goldsmith Pekka Piekainen. The twisted silver that leads to the ridge is reminiscent of the Torque bracelets designed by architect Frank Gehry for Tiffany, but this bracelet pre-dates the Gehry design by almost two decades, a testament to Piekainen\'s innovative designs.
Pekka Piekainen (1945-2004) was a highly-regarded Finnish silversmith who began his career designing for Kaunis Koru in the 1960’s. In the 1970’s he began working as the lead designer at Auran Kultaseppa, one of the oldest silver manufacturers in Finland, and remained there until 1989 when he founded Platinoro. In addition to the firms noted above, Piekainen also designed watches for Omega, Tissot, and Lanco.
Piekainen\'s work is known for its clean lines and seemingly simple forms. In 1976 he received the State Prize of Industrial Design and in 200s he was named Goldsmith of the Year by The Finnish Goldsmith Association.
