This authentic set of PJ-SI-48-A lounge chairs exemplifies the restrained modernism developed for the administrative buildings of Chandigarh in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Designed for executive offices, the model balances architectural rigor with an unexpected softness in use.

Crafted from solid teak, the chair is defined by its striking double “X” leg assembly, which rises seamlessly to form the armrests and is reinforced by two central crosspieces beneath the seat. The slightly reclined backrest, seat, and arm supports enhance comfort while preserving the chair’s sculptural clarity.

The chairs are upholstered in black skai (faux leather), used here as a placeholder fabric. The detached, padded roll-type armrests—an iconic feature of this model—introduce a subtle softness against the graphic teak frame.
